The story behind the image
The dunes were most certainly the highlight of our sightseeing flight across the Sossusvlei Dunes and along the Atlantic Coast.
This photo shows a view towards north. The late afternoon sun was casting long shadows already. From the air, the dunes looked like a giant beach, and the little dots on the picture are trees, actually. This puts the enormous size of the dunes into perspective.
Of course, I do like the harsh contrasts and the reduced color set. But the long, dark shadows and the clear, yet chaotic, edge of the dunes really are my personal highlight.
A jaw dropping experience for me.
