The story behind the image
Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco is an eye-feast for photographers who like to capture maritime images.
I shot this image across Old Wharf from a location near the corner of Taylor Street/Jefferson Street, which is just a few steps away from the iconic Pier 39. To me, it was most interesting to discover the remains of a working harbour here. The boats looked small and could easily mingle with the boats at any small harbour along the coastline.
It’s also interesting to see that the area has not changed a lot over the past two decades. Just the advertising at the wooden shack center-left (“Old Wharf Smokehouse”) has been replaced between June 2019 and May 2021 with different ads.
