The story behind the image
Nova Scotia is a beautiful destination, especially in summer. When we stayed in Digby we also visited the nearby Fort Anne National Historic Site in Annapolis Royal.
Built by Scottish settlers in 1629, Fort Anne protected the town of Port Royal (which was later renamed to Annapolis Royal) and its harbour. For much of the 17th century, until 1710, the colony of Acadia was governed from this location. Parks Canada has an excellent page with all the details.
We experienced a wonderful late afternoon here. The sky was clear, and the sun was already creating a warm light and longer shadows. For my image I put the building into the center of the frame and the two cannons left and right to highlight their defensive function.
