The story behind the image
In 2000, we did a road trip through Italy. When we started in Munich, we really did not have a concrete plan where we would stay. We had some ideas, sure, but we had not booked any hotels or B&Bs. To be on the safe side, we took a tent and sleeping bags.
We entered Tuscany from the North-West, coming from Cinque Terre and visited the historic town of Lucca. This is the Piazza Anfiteatro which has been build on the ruins of an old Amphitheatre (hence the name.)
I took this shot in the bright sun with my super wide angle lens. You can clearly see that the lense has some problem in the center where it seems to be brighter, lacking contrast. Even worse, for some weird reason I used a 400 ASA film, so there’s some film grain visible in the high resolution image. I corrected the scan as much as possible, but clearly would prefer a perfect slide.
I still like the photo.
