The story behind the image
Gravedona is one of those organically grown towns around the Lago di Como in Italy. Every step shouts ‘history’, and life moves along calmly. That’s why we picked the town for a week of vacation in 2011.
The northern end of Gravedona’s waterfront – the Via Tomomea Gallio – offers stunning views across the town and the lake. The building is the Palazzo Gallio. It was built from 1583 to 1586 on the remains of a fortified structure. Some wall portions are still visible on the side of the access staircase towards the garden. You can read a lot more about the Palazzo and its history on the Cultural Heritage site of the Lombardia Region (in Italian.)
We liked Gravedona and Lago di Como very much and look forward to returning in the future.
