The story behind the image
Here is an image from our 2005 trip to Rome. It shows the Colonna dell’Immacolata Concezione. The large marble column is located at the Piazza di Mignanelli near the Spanish Steps. It features a 19th-century bronze statue of the Virgin Mary at the top carrying a wreath of flowers offered annually by the firemen from Rome every year in December. Obviously, the wreath was already withered in June when we visited the city.
I found the light of the approaching sunset beautiful and used my tiny Sony P&S to capture the image. It did a good job as the colors came out well balanced and realistic. It is quite small, sure, but I like it anyway.
As always, Wikipedia knows a lot more about the column.
