The story behind the image

Lerici is beautiful and has everything you might expect from Italy: An old castle, a tiny harbor with a nice piazza and several good and affordable restaurants. You will be able to capture nice views across the Mediterrean Sea. The part between Lerici and the opposite coastline is called Poet’s Bay.

For this photo we drove along the Strada Provinciale 28 up to the Piazzale Panoramico which offers splendid views, especially at sunset time.

In the back is the Isola del Tino. The entire island is a restricted military area today, and it is not allowed to be entered or approached by boats. It is only open to the public on September 13th, celebrating the feast of Saint Venerius. Venerius lived here in the 6th century. According to the legend, he lit fires that guided the boats approaching La Spezia.
