The story behind the photo
A holiday trip to the island of Kos, Greece, resulted in several beautiful shots of the Kos town center and the island, including this art shot.
This old fishing boat had been pulled onto the beach of Marmari. I used a wide angle lens to capture the boat, the late afternoon sun, and some windwurfers that were still speeding across the Mediterranean Sea. Of course, there were only few fishing boats around in 1994, and I guess today – three decades later – they are gone almost entirely.
I really like the painted large eye and lips, and the overall warm colors that are a good match for most living rooms.
Shot with a Canon AE-1 Program on negative film which got lost over the years. Fortunately I had this good and undamaged print sitting in the archive which I scanned and edited recently.
