The story behind the image
The Canadian Rocky Mountains hold many surprises for hikers and photographers alike. This is the awesome Peyto Lake in the late morning. You will reach the famous and popular viewpoint after a 20 minute uphill walk. Where is the surprise then, you ask? Well, the colour of the lake is absolutely correct and reflects reality perfectly! It has not been artificially boosted or altered in Photoshop. (Admittedly, I used a polarized filter for the sky, if I remember correctly.)
The unique color of the lake originates from significant amounts of glacial rock particles in the water from a nearby glacier, giving the lake its bright, turquoise color. Stunning.
