The story behind the image
Back in 2003 we spontaneously booked a scenic flight in San Francisco, starting at the Seaplane Base at the main entrance of Pier 39. We simply could not resist.
There was only one company offering such flights: Seaplane Adventures. They operated a deHavilland Beaver directly from Pier 39 (by now, they have moved their base to Sausalito).
Right after take-off the pilot took us across along the skyline of San Francisco and over the Bay Bridge, very similar to what I saw in the 1970s in the opening sequence of the TV series “The Streets of San Francisco” (with Karl Malden and Michael Douglas). Back then, they were closer to the bridge, though.
Still very nice.
