The story behind the image
Our 2010 trip to the island of Sardinia, Italy, was a photographic feast.
When we stayed for a couple of nights near Oristano at the west coast, we also visited the town center and its Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta that dates back to 1131 – almost 900 years of history. And indeed, it was an amazing, almost spiritual experience, to see the quiet beauty of the cool interior. (Outside, the temperatures were pretty high.)
I looked up to the ceiling and discovered this painting signed Ballerini da Roma, 1912. This apparently refers to Professor Ballerini of Ancona who created most of the internal pictorial decoration in 1912. I took an image right beneath the painting, looking straight up. I adore the symmetry and colors. The light beam in the center, by the way, was present at the time of shooting and has not been added with Photoshop.
Have a great week, folks!
