The story behind the image
In 2000, we did a road trip through Italy. When we started in Munich, we really did not have a concrete plan where we would stay. We had some ideas, sure, but we had not booked any hotels or B&Bs. To be on the safe side, we took a tent and sleeping bags.
We entered Tuscany from the North-West, coming from Cinque Terre where we visited Lucca. About 20 kilometers north of Lucca we found the medieval pedestrian bridge Ponte della Maddalena that crosses the river Serchio at Borgo a Mozzano. While we were a bit disappointed by the view, we were stunned by the fact that it was first built in the 12th century. We could almost sense the history around this place.
Nice.
