The story behind the image
Earlier today I shared a 2003 image of sea lions cuddling next to Pier 39 at Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco on the so-called Sea Lion Rocks. Nobody knows exactly why they were there, but they seemed to like it.
Here is a wider photo that illustrates once more how an area can change. The beautiful lighthouse in the background is the Pier 41 Lighthouse – or so I thought! It turned out that it’s Forbes Island, a 700-ton barge featuring a 40-ft lighthouse, a dozen palms and a tiny sandy beach. Wikipedia has the full story. Wow.
