The story behind the image

Back in 2003 we spontaneously booked a scenic flight in San Francisco, starting at the Seaplane Base at the main entrance of Pier 39. We simply could not resist.

There was only one company offering such flights: Seaplane Adventures. They operated a deHavilland Beaver directly from Pier 39 (by now they have moved their base to Sausalito).

Right after take-off the pilot took us along the skyline of San Francisco, over the Bay Bridge, San Francisco downtown, and the Golden Gate Bridge. Then we were slowly approaching the city center harbour again. As we descended, I shot this photo of the shadow of our airplane.

Love it.
