The story behind the image
After a short pause of just 19 years, I completed yet another film in February and March 2024. I used a Kodak Retinette 1B (Typ 045) – the camera I grew up with when I was a teenager (long, long time ago.) You can read about that camera in my Gear Talk #8.
It was real fun shooting analog again, and the promises made by Kodak in their camera manual were true to the point. It was never easier to shoot a photo. Just set the exposure time, adjust the focus, and move the f-stop ring until the needle in the viewfinder is centered. Super easy indeed.
The question was still, whether the camera operated OK? Oh yes! After sixty years, the camera still worked like a charm and as advertised! All 38 pictures of my film were well exposed and sufficiently sharp.
Above I selected a shot of the Olympic Stadium in Munich. It’s not the easiest photo to take because there are some harsh contrasts and many delicate shadows. The camera mastered this perfectly. (The image shows basically the unedited full frame image as it came from the scanner.)
Sadly, one image was totally off-focus, but that was because I forgot to adjust the focus. (Add a silent sob here.)
Gosh, I fell in love again – with this camera. 🙂
