The story behind the image
We stood on the Burrad Bridge in Vancouver, B.C., gazed into the afternoon sun and watched the activities on False Creek. Suddenly, a dragon boat team appeared from below the bridge. The team practiced their skills, probably just warming up, and smoothly moved towards the open sea.
The sun was perfectly illuminating them from the back, and I deliberately opted for a high-contrast look that turned the boat and crew almost into a silhouette. When they made another pull, I captured the motion.
By the way, Vancouver has a very active dragon boat scene. There is even a festival with North America’s biggest race.
