The story behind the image

Here’s another photo from one of my best trips ever. I had completed my civil service in Germany (as a First Responder) and had a bit of money and a lot of time. And so my girlfriend and I decided to drive from Kiel in Northern Germany to Portugal – a distance of 3,100 km (1,900 mi) that lead us through France and Spain. Back then, Portugal was mostly unspolit by tourism, and it was exciting to spend up to eight weeks in this awesome country.

We headed for the Algarve first and spent a long time exploring the aera. On our way back to Germany we did a stop-over in Lisbon for a couple of days. The hotel was a budget hotel back in 1988 but the central location was perfect for exploring the city.

My photo shows the view from our hotel room in the city center. I remember that I disliked the many TV antennas as they were really preventing a clear view of the sky. Then again, it was an interesting and unusual view and so I took a photo. Today, the antennas have been replaced by satellite dishes, cable TV, or the Internet.
