The Road Ahead, Namibia

The story behind the image

For our first night outside of Windhoek in Namibia, we had selected the Otjibamba Lodge, situated about 4 kilometers south of Otjiwarongo. It is a popular stopover for tourists heading for the Etosha National Park as the drive will take about 4 to 5 hours (320 kilometers) from Windhoek, with a stopover in Okahandja.

The lodge lies within its own private game ranch of 220 ha that can be explored either by foot on marked walking trails or with your car. Depending on your speed, it should take between 1 and 2 hours for the ‘big track’. You will find several Namibian game species such as giraffe, zebra, oryx, and others. In any case, we felt this to be a good and safe introduction to your stay at Etosha.

Even if no animals can be seen in this image, I do like this late afternoon shot that I took while exploring their ‘big track’. The dirt road takes a gentle bend towards the left – leading into territory yet unknown in an untouched, peaceful and quiet landscape.

Nice.
