The story behind the image
I found this photo in the family archive, taken on New Years Day 1953 between Mittenwald and Garmisch in the Bavarian Alps in Germany. Apparently, there had been heavy snow the days before, and the couple had stopped their Volkswagen Beetle next to the road to take this photo.
The amazing thing about this photo is that they could stop the car like this. There must have been very little traffic, and if a driver wanted to pass the parked car, he would just do it. Today, this would be virtually impossible as there are many cars (too many?) driving in the area, including the smaller roads.
