The story behind the image
One of the major attractions during Kiel Week are the sailing ships of all sizes that visit the city. Many of them sail to the city center and open their ship for visitors, often also offering trips to watch the races on the Baltic Sea near Kiel.
We had booked a trip on the Russian tall ship Mir and enjoyed the trip massively. Here, the historic ship Lilleholm passed the Mir. The Lilleholm has been built as a freighter in 1893 in Marstal, Denmark. In 1965 it was refurbished and turned into a yacht for private use. Today, the sailing vessel seems to be still active in Lübeck-Travemünde.
More information on the Lilleholm can be found at tallship-fan.de (in German.)
