The story behind the image
On our long trip to Portugal in 1988 we spent more than a week in Olhão at the Parque de Campismo e Caravanismo de Olhão which is situated a bit outside of the town. From here, we explored not just Olhão with its working harbor and old town, but also Faro and its historic city center and the Ilha do Farol with the most beautiful beach in the region. And we visited the border between Portugal and Spain in the east, near Monte Gordo. The camp ground was perfectly located for these excursions.
While I do not remember any specifics, I do remember that we had to get used to the train line which passed right next to the camping lot. There were not many trains but some were passing in the early morning, and when the train driver honked, we would have fallen from our air matresses – if these wouldn’t have been on the ground already. 😉
