The story behind the image
In 2003 I was on a business trip to Mexico City for a full week. On the weekend I explored the area surrounding my hotel as well as the city center and even the historic site Teotihuacan outside of the city.
When walking down C. Varsovia I found this Volkswagen Beetle that had been clamped by the local authorities. I took a photo because I found it both sad and funny at the same time.
Today, it’s probably a rare image as the production of VW Beetles in Mexico had ended in July 2003, and the number of VW Beetles on the streets has dropped significantly since then.
