The story behind the image

We approached the Canadian Rocky Mountains from the west, coming from Clearwater which was our last stopover prior to Jasper. Clearwater is a busy community just south of the Wells Gray Provincial Park with several stunning hikes and viewpoints. It is less busy compared to the Jasper National Park, though, which makes it very attractive for those looking for a peaceful time out in the woods.

We stayed for two nights in Clearwater, which gave us the opportunity to visit Wells Gray Provincial Park for a full day.

This image shows the Mushbowl Bridge crossing Murtle River. The bridge is about 42 kilometers north of Clearwater. While it is situated well within the provincial park, it marks a clear entry point into the park because it is just a single lane. This tells the drivers that they are entering a rural area (which is not entirely true, by the way – it is just a narrow bridge.)

A few steps from here you can admire Dawson Falls which are pretty wide (107 meters) but not very high (18 meters), compared to other waterfalls in the park. Yet, it is worth the short walk from the parking lot.
