The story behind the image
Here’s another photo from one of my best trips ever. I had completed my civil service in Germany (as a First Responder) and had a bit of money and a lot of time. And so my girlfriend and I decided to drive from Kiel in Northern Germany to Portugal – a distance of 3,100 km (1,900 mi) that lead us through France and Spain. Back then, Portugal was mostly unspolit by tourism, and it was exciting to spend up to eight weeks in this awesome country.
We headed for the Algarve first and spent a long time exploring the aera. On our way back to Germany we did a stop-over in Lisbon (and Paris) for a couple of days. It was fantastic!
My photo shows the Castelo de São Jorge in Lisbon seen from our hotel room next to the Avendia di Liberdade. The full moon hovered over the beautifully illuminated castle, and I remember that I disliked the many TV antennas that prevented a nice full view of the castle. Today, I think differently. The antennas are probably long gone and have been replaced by satellite dishes, cable TV, or the Internet.
