The story behind the image
During a business trip to Copenhagen we spent some time exploring the city. It was quite cold (significantly below the freezing point), yet the weather was beautiful.
This is Vor Frelsers Kirke, a church from the 17th century, built by Lambert van Haven. The unique church tower was added from 1749 to 1752 by Laurids de Thurah who built the stairway that winds around the tower all the way to the top. (I couldn’t walk up there because I’m afraid of heights.)
I wanted to take a photo of the tower that highligths its uniqueness – the stairs and the handrails that shine in the bright sunlight. To take this photo I walked along Torvegade. Near the Christianshavns Lokalhistoriske Forening og Arkiv I found this spot. In fact, the roof in the bottom right corner belongs to the Arkiv.
The image is a bit small, but I like it anyway.
