The story behind the image
Bologna is one of the busy cities in Northern Italy. Many tourists ignore the city and head for the true hotspots like Verona, Venice, Florence, and San Marino. That’s why Bologna could preserve its natural charms, making it (kind of) a secret tip for travelers.
Still, some of the popular places have been photographed countless times. The Fontana del Nettuno (Fountain of Neptune) at the Piazza del Nettuno is probably one of these locations.
Here, I could capture a tourist who takes a photo of the Neptune statue overtowering the fountain. The ceiling and columns of a building acted as a frame and put the statue into the center of the image. Sadly, I brought just the Ricoh CX1 point & shoot camera which was challenged by the harsh contrast of the bright Piazza and the dark front.
Still, I do like the picture for its unusual composition.
P.S.: The headstone at the wall says BOLOGNESI MORTI COMBATTENDO PER LA LIBERTA’ D’ITALIA and contains a list of people from Bologna who “died fighting for the freedom of Italy” between 1848 and 1870.
