The story behind the image
There is something about fish trawlers that I find attractive, but I can’t explain exactly what it is. Of course, it’s the maritime setting. The sea, the sun (sometimes), the salty taste of the wind (often), the cries of the seagulls. But there must be more. Is it the passion shown by the fishermen who get up every night to board their small vessels, risking their lives to bring in the fish for us? Is it the honest, hard work by those men?
In any event, I really love fishing vessels in action on the sea.
This image shows the 52 ft fish trawler Marita captured at the Irish West Coast, probably near Galyway. I found these two images on X, showing the original wheel of the Marita and a beautiful oil painting. Note the large label ‘G1’ on the red body of the ship.
