The story behind the image

During our 2006 trip to the island of Mallorca in Spain we explored the regions that are not directly located at the seaside and (sadly) often get passed by tourists.

One day we were visiting the Santuari de la Consolació in the south-east of the island. It is a monastery dating back to 1523. It sits quietly on the top of a hill – the Puig de Consolació – just off C-717 between Santanyi and S’Alqueria Blanca.

Once you enter the Santuari, you will be greeted by a tiny, yet ultimately beautiful inner courtyard that consists of several palms and trees, all enclosed by the big walls. The stairway that leads up to a small chappel offers nice shadows, inviting for a short rest. Where else can you can find peace and silence in such a historic and beautfiful surrouding?
