The story behind the image
At the prestigious Hindenburgufer (now Kiellinie) you will find this steel sculpture by Swiss artist Felix Fehlmann. It’s called Hafen 77 and as the name suggests, it has been erected in 1977 in Kiel, near the former war harbour. It’s based on a scrapped coal freighter (a Highlandsteamer from England) and has aged over time. Thick ropes connect it to pollards, adding to its maritime charms.
The use of black and white film for this photo added to the impact of the bizarrely rusty sculpture.
