The story behind the image
In the running season 2020/2021 there were very few public running competitions in Munich, Germany – at least for people who were not yet vaccinated against the Corona virus. But a new type of competition came up: Virtual Runs were you finish a certain distance, track the time and route using your smart watch or mobile app, and submit the result to the time keeper.
I had finished the new years eve runs in Munich in 2018 and 2019 (which were great fun, btw) and had signed up for the virtual new years run in 2020. In the leaderboard I achieved in the 10 km race:
- Rank 58 of 688 all finishers
- Rank 44 of 216 male finishers
- Rank 20 of 116 male finishers in Germany
For today, I’ve signed up for the new years eve 10 km run at the Olympic Park in Munich – to finish off the year strongly.
I’ll keep you posted. 🙂
Update 1st January 2024 – Yesterday I finished the 10k new years eve run as #35 of 110 male finishers in age group M55, respectively #567 of 1101 male finishers. My official finishing time was 51:12. Which is not bad at all, I think. 🙂
