The story behind the image
Munich in Germany has several beautiful Christmas markets across the city. However, one of the most popular markets is the one at the Marienplatz in the city center. Every year, a giant Christmas tree will be erected and decorated with thousands of lights. Next to the town hall, it overtowers the surrounding booths of the merchants and food stands.
I shot this image exactly six years ago. It had been a pleasant, winter-like afternoon – which is not always the case in Munich at this time of the year. So we decided to visit the Marienplatz and enjoy the mood to relax and prepare for the fest.
