The story behind the image
My mother died on this day in 2004, and too early. Years after her death I realized that I had so many questions to ask and so many experiences to share – but, sadly, it was too late.
She had always been attracted to art and artworks as her family had collected a few paintings of artists living in Northern Germany. In the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s she created a number of paintings, which I inherited after her death. Here’s one that she loved: it shows a small house that is typical for Southern France. It may look like it’s in a bad shape, but the flowers on the left indicate that the garden has been looked after.
I guess it is a fantasy place where she would have liked to live. She had been a fan of France and all things French, probably because her grandmother (Eugenie) was born and had been raised in Schlettstadt (Selestat) in Alsace, France.
And yes, I like the painting as well. Especially the bright colors never fail to get me into a positive mood again.
Mom, whereever you are right now – I’m thinking of you.
