The story behind the image

Here’s an undated image from the family archive showing an innocent summer scene in Freudenstadt., Germany. On a sunny day in spring, probably early 1950s, a brass concert attracts the masses on the marketplace in front of the city hall. It was post-war, and I guess any (free) entertainment was appreciated by the people.

Since this photo was taken, the marketplace has remained almost unchanged. The one ontable change is the absence of cars today. Up until the 1980s, the place offered plenty of parking lots. Thus, it’s interesting to see very few cars in the back, the early signs of economical recovery after the war.

The print was in a terrible condition, and the editing took quite some time.
