The story behind the image
In 2005 we visited Scotland for a three-week trip. As always, we had booked just the flights and the rental car, the rest was up to us. No obligations. No tight plans. It turned out to be a fantastic trip! Scotland is a beautiful country with friendly people and some awesome nature.
We decided to stay the first night in Dumfries, the center of the whole region and a nice small town of roughly 35,000 people. The river Nith flows right through the town, and when we walked back from dinner, we were delighted to see the historic Devorgilla Bridge across the river Nith and the buildings along White Sands, illuminted by the approaching sunset.
I shot this image with my tiny Sony P&S camera and am amazed time and again by the image quality. This shot required only minimal editing and captured the awesome mood very well. (Admittedly, the image size is tiny by today’s standards.)
Still very nice.
