The story behind the image
The Caledonian Canal connects the North Sea (at Inverness) with the Atlantic Ocean (at Fort William). As there is always a difference in the tide, they built in staircases that are operated today as they have been hundred years ago.
Right next to the staircases, you will the Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee Fountain, an impressive Victorian cast iron drinking fountain. As the name suggests, it was erected to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee of 60 Years.
