The story behind the image
Our first days couple of days in South Africa and the Kruger National Park were cloudy with sometimes heavy rain. But we were excited to be in the park and did not really mind the bad weather. Of course, both the animals in the park and the farmers in the surroundings had been waiting and hoping for this rain to come as the dry soils and the vegetation needed a healthy dose of water.
Now we were driving, slowly and always cautious, along the main road towards north. Then we spotted this single elephant. He rolled around in the wet grass and apparently had a good time. We stopped the car, and I captured this moment. I am still undecided whether the rain actually strengthens the image or not. At least, it’s a rare sight.
By the way, the weather got better during our stay in the park, and I could also capture images of elephants in sunshine. 🙂
