The story behind the image
On 3rd July 2007, German train drivers went on warn strike for 4 hours, causing turbulences and delays for millions of travelers across Germany.
I was shooting some documentary photos of the strikers but also went into the main hall of the central station in Munich to look for attractive images. Usually you will experience a constant activity, with trains approaching and leaving and masses of passengers populating the platforms, the hall and the shops. Now it was really quiet there, with just very few trains and people at the station.
In the main hall, I found this cardboard sign leaning against a locomotive, put there by one of the workers on strike. It looked somewhat lonely as it leaned there.
P.S.: I’m posting this today, on 16th November 2023, because Germany has been hit hard by a massive train strike again, which started last night at 10 pm and will last until 6 pm today.
