The story behind the image
I have blogged several images of the Sossusvlei in Namibia already, because it is such an inspiring, almost extraterrestrial place.
I love this image showing trees at the foot of Dune 45 because the viewer cannot easily relate the red background with reality. Usually there should be a blue sky, because obviously the sun is shining. But the background is entirely red. Some traces can be seen in the “sky”, but what is this? Has this image been “over edited”?
No. These trees stand in front of Dune 45 and its masses of red sand. This shows the incredible dimensions of the Sossusvlei dunes but also the super slow speed at which they move – otherwise the trees couldn’t have grown so much.
Just wow.
