The story behind the image
Earlier today I shared an image of Neuschwanstein Castle. Here is the image of the interior that impressed me the most: The Throne Hall. It’s a rather dark, church-like hall that uses gold as the dominating colour. The excellent official site has some more details.
My image shows the dome of the hall. The original plan was to place the throne here – but the king died, the construction works stopped, and the throne was never built. The state of the hall has been preserved, and so visitors get to see a throne hall without a throne.
Spooky.
