The story behind the image
Back in the good old days of film, there were a few, rather short, black-and-white periods for me. 1994, for example. I took a couple of black and white films to a wedding in central UK (which turned out to be a bad idea by the way) and a couple of days of sightseeing in London. We stayed at The Enterprise Hotel in Kensington, not far away from Hyde Park and city center.
I took a photo of the hotel as a tiny souvenir. Little did I know I would stumble across this image in the archive almost three decades later! Strange, eh?
Anyway, in my relentless comparisons between past and present I can tell you – the hotel is no longer. At least not under this name. In 2014 it had been sold and completely refurbished. It relaunched as ibis Styles London Kensington under a franchise agreement between the Accor Group and a subsidiary of Singapore-based Heeton Group. Apparently, the franchise agreement has ended by now as the hotel has been rebranded once again and is now marketed as The Heeton Concept Hotel. It can be found at 15-25, Hogarth Road.
Fortunately, the front has been left as it used to be. So despite the modern interior, you get a sense of the old Kensington on the outside. It also mingles much better with the neighborhood (compared to a modern and faceless concrete building.)
