The story behind the image
I like taking close-ups of objects that appear to be simple (and rather boring) when seen just at a quick glance – but reveal a whole new world of wonderful details when observed closer.
When we visited Long Beach near Tofino on Vancouver Island, we stumbled literally across hundreds, if not thousands, of logs that have been washed up on the beach, high enough to not getting carried away by the next couple of waves. Left in the sunshine they dry and develop a beautiful surface. While not arranged in a strict pattern, their surfaces are full of details, edges and dents.
I picked this log because I liked the way the sun was illuminating the surface, creating harsh shadows that contrast well with the light brown and grey of the surface.
Nice.
