The story behind the image
One person has significantly influenced the development of Munich in Germany: Christian Ude (SPD). He had been Munich’s lord mayor for more than two decades, from 1993 to 2014.
In 2007 I covered a press conference in the town hall in Munich dealing with the (not too exciting) 200th anniversary of the Viktualienmarkt in Munich. Admittedly, two centuries is a long time, the market is beautiful, and a tourist magnet too – yet it does not offer a lot of room for critical debate.
It’s a light-hearted topic, and so it’s not a big surprise that Mr. Ude had been in a very good mood that morning (like usual.) He was telling little stories about the market, and when he was laughing out loudly, I captured his laugh quite nicely.
Today, Christian Ude turns 76. Happy Birthday, Mr. Ude!
Wikipedia knows a lot more about Mr. Ude (in German.)
