The story behind the image
Certaldo near Florence turned out to be a perfect place to experience historic Italy – without the masses that clog the streets of Florence, San Gimignano or Siena.
We took the cable car to Upper Certaldo, and it was still relatively early, so there were very few tourists around, and even fewer cars. There are not many streets anyway in this isolated town quarter, and the main street gets a good share of the attention. Restaurents were beginning to prepare for lunch business, but still it was quite calm and relaxed.
I like the warm colors of the red brick walls and the dark shawdows.
