The story behind the image

In 2006, we spent two weeks on the island of Mallorca, located in the Mediterranean Sea. Our goal: exploring and experiencing the island in its entirety. After all, this stunning island is the perfect destination for anyone who is willing to expand the trip beyond the (admittedly) beautiful beaches.

And I regret having neglected the island for so long. Like many, I had been thinking that it’s a party island, just good for beer-drinking hooligans and bachelor parties, consisting of little more than concrete towers and long, hot beaches. I could not have been more wrong! Apologies for that.

When we visited the islands’ buzzing capital, Palma de Mallorca, we explored its historical city center and large harbour that is both a working harbour and a yacht harbour.

My photo shows the boat ramp of the working harbour, and it looked all like a working harbour: there were boats waiting for repair, fish nets, trailers, and a bit of junk. In the back the Casa de Eduardo, a traditional fish restaurant founded in 1943. Today, it’s called Ca n’Eduardo and has a roof top with stunning views.

By the way, this photo is quite different to the kitsch postcard shot I captured just minutes before a bit further down on the street.
