The story behind the image
Yesterday we visited the original Oktoberfest in Munich. The afternoon was mild and comfortable, and the sky was mostly clear. We explored the street with the fun rides, and suddenly I noticed people looking straight up into the sky. Some where even taking photos. Spontaneously, I also looked up.
I saw a giant white pretzel drawn into the blue sky right above the Theresienwiese where the Oktoberfest takes place. A tiny airplane had drawn it. As the drawing was quickly dissolving, the airplane kept drawing new pretzels. A spectacle I’ve never seen before (and I live for almost 30 years in the city now.)
I totally aadore this picture. So simple, yet so effective.
Update 28-SEP-23: I did a bit of research and found that the spectacular drawing in the sky had been created by Sascha Odermann, a flying artist and airline pilot. He’s a member of Akaflieg München e.V., a group of pilots and flying enthusiasts in Munich. Founded in 1924 as Akademische Fliegergruppe München they quickly started developing and building airplanes. Here’s the full story of Akflieg.
