The story behind the image

This year, we spent two weeks at the Baltic Sea in Grömitz, Germany. One day we made an excursion to the island of Fehmarn, visiting Burg auf Fehmarn, a beautiful city full of history, and the Flügge Lighthouse at the south-western tip of the island.

I took this photo from the café of the Flügge Lighthouse (because I could not walk up to the lighthouse due to a certain fear of height.) And while it shows just a plain meadow, I love the shot. That’s because there’s so much more in it: the wall of the old building, built using the red bricks that are typical for the region; the nice white/green fence; the single tree; the juicy green of the meadow; and the level horizon with the dark blue of the Baltic Sea.

This place (minus the countless tourists, of course, that visit the lighthouse) would be my dream location for living. (But it will remain a dream.)

Lovely.
