The story behind the image

The other day I wrote a rave review of the Adventure Zoo in Hannover. Here’s another image from our visit that illustrates the level of detail the designers have gone into to make visitors feel as if they were a part of the scene exhibited in each section of the zoo.

It’s a life sized tail of a crashed bush plane that sticks out of the surrounding bushes and trees of the African section, opposite the lion cherish. Of course, it’s a replica, but it has been crafted incredibly well. The tail signs give the illusion away, though – there is no registration KM-1404, but only airplane fans will notice.

It’s these details and surprises that set the zoo in Hannover apart from other, maybe even larger, zoos, making it a genuine Adventure Zoo. Both thumbs up for this experience!

For this photo I used Canon’s EF-M11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM, a super wide angle zoom lens for the EOS M series. The focal length of 11 mm enabled me achieve a dramatic look by placing the crashed plane in a prominent place but also showing the huge trees surrounding the tail.
