The story behind the image
2023 marks the second year of Oktoberfest in Munich after the Corona crisis – at the peak of the crisis, the Fest had been suspended. Now it’s back in full swing.
It was opened last Saturday by Dieter Reiter, the lord mayor of Munich in the Schottenhamel tent by yelling “O’zapft is!” (“It’s open!”) to the cheering crowd. And the beer began to flow!
Expect astronomical beer and food prices, thanks to an unhealthy inflation going on and two years of suspension during Corona crisis (where the revenue from the Oktoberfest was missing.)
I took this photo exactly 18 years ago, but it feels like it was just yesterday. Time flies. Oh my.
That day had been wonderful and rather warm and we spent a nice evening at one of the tents. I had brought my camera (a bold move!) and as I passed the tall Bavaria monument I felt the urge to capture this beautiful sight during the blue hour. I climbed one of the solid bases of the light poles to get the necessary height and got my shot.
Lovely.
