The story behind the image
Over pentecost 1999, we did a prolonged weekend trip to Florence in Italy – which is a great year-round destination. While exploring the city we also came across the Fontana del Porcellino, a statue of a wild boar. The saying goes that touching the nose of the statue will make you return to Florence. And guess what? We did return. Many times!
When we visited Florence in 2023, the statue was still present, but the surrounding merchant booths did not have colorful items (as the leather bags in my image), so I think that the 1999 image looks much better. 🙂
By the way, in 1999 the label attached to the boars’ leg explained that the money that has been left by the visitors will be donated to the Madonna del Grappa (an orphanage in Florence): “Le offerte cui cettate vanno all’opera Madonnina del Grappa – Grazie!”
