The story behind the image
I love to take long exposures during the ‘Blue Hour’. Here’s a shot from our recent trip to Grömitz at the Baltic Sea. The community has gone the extra mile for the tourists and applied a stunning lighting to the sea pier. This light is certainly an eye catcher, as is the Dutch tall ship Loth Loriën that offers short trips, departing from Grömitz, for those who want to experience sailing as it used to be. (A beautiful experience, by the way.)
Now, with the 30 second exposure and the camera mounted to a tripod, the – already calm – Baltic Sea became a smooth, flat surface, and the reflections of the illuminated pier and the tall ship morphed into a sea of light.
The dark purple light in the masts of the Loth Loriën added another beautiful element to this almost magical image.
Love it.
